Brandon decided to sell both goat kids.  He had been planning on keeping Pipper (the doe) but the person who want to buy the buckling really wanted both.  They were so sad when separated and where going to a great home where they will be very pampered pets so Brandon sold her both of them.  After tithing half of his earnings when into his mission fund (he is saving up to serve 2 years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when he turns 19) and with the rest he made two big purchases.

The first is this bow:

We went to an archery store where they also had an indoor shooting area so he could try out a few different kinds of bows.  He had been against a compound bow but ended up really liking one.  After coming back home to think about it for a few days he ended up going back today to buy it.  He loves it!

The second purchase he and Travis actually made together.  Travis was a bit envious of the money Brandon made and with his eye on a few of the larger Lord of the Rings lego sets he began talking to Brandon about more ways to bring in some big money (egg money is nice but it is more of a small and steady income).  They decided to buy "Wellington".

 He is a Jersey calf born Saturday (June 30).  They are raising him on Hermia's milk.  With her kids gone we are getting a gallon of milk a day which is about what he will need.

 Once he is weened they will keep him until he eats down our grass and then sell him for someone to finish fattening up.  Especially without haveing to pay for milk they will make a nice profit.  The biggest danger should be the next few weeks.  Many calves get scours and die pretty fast.  Goat milk rather than the powdered milk replacer should help.  We are also going to try feeding him smaller feedings more often throughout the day.  Most places just feed twice a day but if the calves were with their mom they would be eating frequent small meals so we will try to mimic that and see if it helps.  He had his first feeding of fresh goat milk tonight and loved it.  Hermia seemed proud as she watched the milk we had just gotten from her poured from the bucket into the bottle and then guzzled down by a cow.

To end a great day, smores by the fire and then out to the forest to sleep in their tent...

 His new pellet gun arrived today.
