We were hoping to get our first egg by the middle of July but our chickens have surprised us. We have two chicken that have started laying. The first was also one of our oldest chickens, a Buff Orphington but the big surprise was the second chicken to start laying was actually one of our youngest chickens, a whole month younger than the Buff. Of course she is a white leghorn and as Alex pointed out that breed is bred to be "an egg laying machine."
We have been saving the eggs since Sunday so we could each have one. We had forgotten how much of a difference in taste there is between store bought and fresh eggs. Delicious!
Hopefully we will soon have a few more chickens online and then B & T will be back in business. Good timing too as they just spent the last of their money on the new Wii Harry Potter lego game.
